Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has secretly sent his foreign minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari to Tehran to win Irans support for his government, al-Iraq News quoted sources close to the Islamic Dawa Party as saying.
Al-Jaafari reportedly went to Tehran last week and held talks with senior Iranian officials on the Iraqi developments, asking Iran to help stop alleged anti-government measures by former premier Nouri al-Maliki.The Iraqi top diplomat is said to have asked Major General Ghasem Soleimani, the commander of the IRGCs Quds Force, to personally command the military operation backed by popular forces in al-Anbar.
