Sanctions, which were recently imposed against Iran in an illegal way, have been detrimental to all (sides), Rouhani said during a meeting with Sen Barrett, the speaker of Dil ireann, the lower house and principal chamber of Irish legislature, in Tehran on Wednesday.
On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, some European leaders also clearly acknowledged that the European Union has suffered losses due to the sanctions, he added.
On August 29, the US Treasury Department imposed new sanctions on more than 25 Iranian individuals and companies, including shipping firms, oil companies, airlines and six banks.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian president reiterated the peaceful nature of the countrys nuclear activities, saying that Tehran is seeking a win-win agreement on its nuclear program.
He went on to say that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has conducted numerous unannounced inspections of Irans nuclear sites over the past 12 years and confirmed that there is no diversion in the country's peaceful nuclear activities.
Irans activities in the nuclear issue are completely transparent and in the negotiations (between Tehran and six world powers), we are seeking a win-win agreement which would serve the two sides interests, Rouhani noted.
Nuclear negotiators representing Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) held the latest round of talks on Tehrans civilian nuclear program in New York from September 18 to September 26. The negotiations were wrapped up without any tangible progress.
