Irans missile systems are only there to defend the frontiers and sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran and are not aggressive under any circumstances, said Mohammad-Saleh Jokar, who sits on the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran's Majlis.
The Iranian lawmaker made the remarks in reaction toa scaremongering annual report by the US Department of Defense on the Islamic Republic's missile capabilities.
The US claim that Irans ballistic missiles can tip the balance in the Persian Gulf region is part of Washingtons scheme to promote Iranophobia in the region, said the parliamentarian.
He added that the US also seeks to disrupt negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group over Tehrans nuclear energy program.
The US has always, at specific junctures, been seeking to provoke regional countries against Irans military arms or missile systems, and as certain evidence suggests, this country (the US) still wants the negotiations not to yield results, Jokar said.
Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council the United States, France, Britain, Russia, China plus Germany have been discussing ways to iron out their differences and achieve a final deal.
The Iranian lawmaker further said the countrys military might serves as a stabilizing force in the region.
In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.
The Islamic Republic has repeatedly said its military might is based on deterrence.
