Tehran, June 29, IRNA - The ancient bridge of Dezful in Khuzestan province, which dates back to 1,700 years, will be restored by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2015), said an official.Gholamali Baghban Kouchak, head of Dezfuls Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department, added that the restoration cost, estimated over
$66,000, will be secured from the development fund, ?Iran Daily? said in its Sunday?s edition.
He noted that $383,000 have been set aside for overhauling Dezfuls tourism infrastructure.
The department plans to allocate $44,000 for the restoration of the historical house of Suzangerd while nearly $33,000 will be allocated for the restoration of the ancient bath, he said.
Kouchak added that the ancient bridge built by Shapur II of Sassanid era took three years to complete.
The monument, including its watermills and water museum, is one of the best attractions of Dezful, which attracts many tourists annually, he said.
Shoushtar Waterfalls, Choghamish Hills and Jundishapur city are other attractions of the province.
Dezful Bridge is one of the ancient bridges that connects Dezful to Andimeshk. It has been repaired several times during the Safavid, Qajar and early Pahlavi periods.
The bridge has four large arches with a smaller arch between two large arches. Remnants of ancient mills can be observed near the bridge.
