According to The Iran Project,The two plants were synchronously connected to the power grid several days into the new Iranian year that started on March 20, said Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, the managing director of the Iran Power Generation Transmission and Distribution Company, known as Tavanir, an affiliate to the Energy Ministry.

The two plants, one in Gol-Gohar Sirjan and another in Mobarakeh Steel complex, increase the countrywide electricity production by 490 MW, the official said on Monday.

He explained that power-consuming industries have been tasked to build power plants to generate their own electricity, adding that seven industrial units have so far joined the national grid since such a plan was introduced two years ago.

This is in reference to a memorandum of understanding which the Iranian ministries of energy and industry signed in October 2021 for the generation of at least 10,000 MW of electricity by industries.

The MoU was part of efforts to boost the production and distribution of electricity across the country, especially during the summer when consumption is at its peak.
