Over 20 Iranian filmmakers win awards at 4th FICIMAD

The Iran Project : More than 20 films by Iranian directors were among the winners of the 4th FICIMAD (Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Madrid), an annual international competition in Spain, which took place on March 15 in Madrid.

According to The Iran Project,The Iranian films received the awards in various sections of the festival including Student Movies, Short Movies, Featurette Movies, and Feature Movies, Honaronline reported on Sunday.

In the Student Movies section, Hossein Samari won the Best Supporting Actor award for “The Primitive” and Maryam Rahmanian received the award for Best Screenplay for “Duality”. 

In the Short Narrative Movies section, Mohammad Soraya won the Best Director award for “Brno,” Parisa Habibi was awarded the Best Supporting Actress for “Correction Fluid,” the Best Cinematography award went to Armin Yousefzadeh for “Interval,” Amirhossein Mousavi got the Best Original Score award for “The Young Mozart,” Haleh Alizadeh was the recipient of the Best Makeup award for “The Last Version of Love,” the Best Thriller award was given to “SCAVENGER” by Alborz Poursayad, the Best Sci-fi Film award went to “You Think Although You Are Not” by Salaheddin Noori, “The Creature” by Muhammad Reza Yarikia received the Best Horror Film award, Maryam Mahani grabbed the award for the Best First Time Filmmaker for “She Sees Me,” and the award of the Outstanding Achievement was presented to Afsaneh Aghanezhad and Vali Bagheri for “For Child Never Born”.

Romina Bentancur won the Best Film Editing for “An Actress’ Dream” in the Short Documentary Movies section.

In the Narrative Featurette Movies section, “Invisible Lines” by Rana Sajjadi won the Best Picture award, Milad Hosseini received the Best Cinematography award for “Death Anniversary,” Mahya Akbari grabbed the Best Makeup award for “Exchange,” the Best Film Noir award went to “Expose” by Amir Mohtashami and Ali Baghizadeh, and the Best Thriller award was given to “Zero Coordinates” by Nima Valibeigi.

In the Documentary Featurette Movies section, “Sayad Capello” by Rostam Nazari received the Best Documentary award, and the Best Film Editing award went to Saeed Mayahy and Miriam Carlsen for “Game Over”.

In the Narrative Feature Movies section, the Best Picture award was given to “For the Sake of Ava” by Mohsen Seraji, the Best Director award was presented to “Ujan Story” by Shahram Badakhshanmehr, and “Wounded Psyche” by Meysam Jafarinejad won the award for the Best Experimental Film.

In the Documentary Feature Movies section, “The Football Aficionado” by Sharmin Mojtahedzadeh and Paliz Khoshdel won the Best Documentary award, Mohammad Abedi won the Best Director award for “All the Eyes,” and the Best Film Editing award was presented to Ehsan Vaseghi, Parinaz Hashemi, and Pooya Parsamagham for “Ali Vs. Ali”.

FICIMAD seeks to discover and promote talented filmmakers from all over the world and present them to the public. It promotes the discussion and study of filmmaking.

FICIMAD also calls for experimental film and video work that explores language and/or literature whether it be oral, written, visual, or symbolic. This includes non-narrative work and the avant-garde. It strongly considers works that challenge traditional and current visual communication methods while continuing to function as a mode for exploring narrative and personal expression.
