Putin aid arrives in Tehran for talks on North-South Corridor
Russian Presidents Special Aide has arrived in the capital Tehran for a two-day visit to discuss the North-South Corridor rail project with Iranian officials.

On Friday night, Russian Presidents Special Aide Igor Levitin arrived in Tehran to hold serious discussions over joint projects between Iran and Russia, Mehr reported.

According to Sputnik's correspondent in Tehran, during his two-day visit to the Iranian capital, Levitin will hold meetings with Iranian officials including Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Mokhbar and Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mehrdad Bazarpash.

Putin's aid is also scheduled to meet Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Irans Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).

Reports suggest that the North-South Corridor rail project is the most important issue in these meetings.

Back in January, Levitin paid a visit to Tehran and the most important achievement of this trip was reaching an agreement between Iran and Russia for the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway super project.

Earlier, the head of Irans Trade Promotion Organization had said that activation of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) would reduce transportation costs and time from Eurasia to the Persian Gulf countries and India by 30 percent.

Peyman-pak said that they agreed to finalize the list of goods by making a joint working group between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

The two sides emphasized the final ratification of a free trade agreement with Iran in the EAEU countries, the official said, adding that a joint working group was slated to be formed to provide the infrastructure required for the INSTC to be operational.

Iran can obtain billions of dollars in transit tariffs if the international corridor is activated, he noted.
