Mutual cooperation a must for regional states: Zarif

Tasnim Irans Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed the hope that Saudi Arabia would soon come to the realization that all neighbors around the Persian Gulf need to work in cooperation, saying such a shift would definitely draw a positive reaction from Iran.

Saudi authorities ought to come to the conclusion, sooner rather than later, that not only for Saudi Arabia, but also for all other countries in the Persian Gulf region, there is no other option than joint cooperation, Zarif said in an interview with Khabaronline News Agency.

The top Iranian diplomat also said he did not see a clear or definite prospect yet for a change in the relations with Saudi Arabia, but emphasized that a shift in the kingdoms policies would be welcomed by Iran.

Speaking to reporters at the conclusion of an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Turkeys Istanbul on August 1, Zarif had expressed the hope that Saudi Arabia would reconsider its regional policies, on the same day that he shook hands with his Saudi counterpart Adel al-Jubeir on the sidelines of the conference.
