Interior Ministry Spokesman denies Ghalibaf launching political party

Tehran, August 9, The Iran Project Interior Ministry Spokesman denies news quoted Hassan Biyadi, former member of the Tehran City Council, as saying that Tehran Mayor Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is going to launch a political party for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Interior Ministry Spokesman, Hussein Ali Amiri, rejected a recent report that says Tehrans Mayor is setting to launch a new political party, stating no party has been registered in the name of Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in the Interior Ministry.

Any party or group needs to get a permit from the Commission on Article 10 of the Parties Law to get engaged in political activities, Amiri stressed.

Some Iranian newspapers quoted Hassan Biyadi, a close figure to Tehran Mayor, as saying that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is going to launch a political party for the upcoming parliamentary elections that is to be held later this year.
