The Iran Project - Iran's chief negotiator, Ali Bagheri Kani, has said that he held “frank” talks with the European Union's coordinator, Enrique Mora, to discuss efforts to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
The talks took place on the sidelines of the 78th session of the General Assembly in New York on Thursday.
Bagheri Kani and Mora discussed relations between Iran and the EU, as well as the latest developments in talks aimed at lifting anti-Iran sanctions and reviving the nuclear deal.
On the margin of #UNGA2023, I met with @enriquemora_.
We had frank discussions on many areas of IRAN-EU relationship including developments on sanctions lifting negotiations. Consultations will be continued in future.

Bagheri Kani has also held talks with political representatives from Germany, France, and the UK.
The meeting between Bagheri Kani and Mora follows a meeting between Iran's Foreign Minister and the EU foreign policy chief, where they emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue and implementing commitments under the nuclear deal.
JCPOA talks have been on pause since August 2020, with Iran blaming a lack of political will from the US administration. The recent exchange of prisoners between Iran and the US has been seen as a possible step towards a broader agreement between the two countries.
