Iran-Oman FMs discuss issues of mutual interest over phone

2 Sep 2022 - 23:18

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran and his Omani counterpart had a telephone conversation today regarding the two countries' eagerness to negotiate to lift sanctions.

During the talks, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein AmirAbdollahian briefed Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Oman on the latest developments related to the talks to lift the sanctions and the response sent by Iran to the European coordinator last night concerning the 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal known as the Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

In the telephone conversation, AmirAbdollahian emphasized the will of the Islamic Republic of Iran to achieve a good, stable, and strong agreement.

Thanking the active and constructive approach of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Omani foreign minister expressed hope that the Vienna talks would achieve the expected results with the cooperation of all parties.

The new round of negotiations to lift US sanctions against Iran started on August 4 in Vienna and ended on August 8.  In this round of negotiations, several proposals were made by Enrique Mora, the coordinator of the European Union, in the Vienna talks.

Iran has recently responded to the Western countries' proposals regarding the revival of the JCPOA so that Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, could convey the response to Washington.

"We can confirm that we have received Iran's response through the EU," State Department spokesman Vedant Patel said late Thursday in Washington.
