5-magnitude quake injures 25 in southwest Iran

Press TV- A temblor measuring five on the Richter scale has jolted a southwestern Iranian province, injuring 25 people.

The quake struck the town of Naqan in Kiar County of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province on Sunday, Iranian news agencies reported.

Twelve of the casualties received minor injuries, while nine had to be hospitalized, said Faramarz Shahin, the head of the province’s Emergency Medical Services Center.

The epicenter has been put at two kilometers (1.2 miles) away from Naqan at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).

Sattar Farhadi, the director general of the province’s Crisis Management Directorate, said the quake had inflicted some damage to the electrical grid, sent rocks rolling down the nearby mountainside, and caused cracks in walls.

A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck the western Iranian province of Hamedan last Friday, injuring eight people.
