Tehran, June 16, The Iran Project – No new decision has been made about women attending sporting events, Iran’s Interior Minister announced on Tuesday.
“No new decision has been made about women’s attendance at sports stadiums,” Iran’s Interior Minister, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli told the reporters on the sidelines of a meeting of the country’s election headquarters on Tuesday.
However, Last week, Iran’s vice president for women and family affairs, Shahindokht Molaverdi, said only “a limited number of women, mainly families of national team players,” would be allowed to attend the upcoming volleyball matches in Tehran.
But, Spokesman Brigadier General Saeed Montazer al-Mahdi said recently that women’s entry into sporting arenas remains illegal and a conservative group staged a protest over women’s attendance a few days ago in spite of the Government Spokesman’s remarks about the illegality of any rally against the issue.
