Despite sanctions, Iran among top five producers of genetic kits in world

The Iran Project - Despite US-led sanctions impeding Iran's access to state-of-the-art medical technology, the country is still among the top five producers of genetic kits worldwide, according to a senior Iranian health official.

Masoud Qadi-Pasha, vice president of the Iranian Forensic Medicine Organization's laboratory department, highlighted the impact of Western sanctions on Iran's ability to import genetic kits and the country's determination to become self-sufficient in this field.

Qadi-Pasha stated that Iran now produces all its genetic kits domestically, making it one of the world's leading producers.

He also noted that the quality of Iranian kits surpasses that of foreign ones in certain aspects.

The Iranian government aims to produce 30% of previously imported items by the end of the year and eventually achieve self-sufficiency in this sector.

Additionally, Qadi-Pasha mentioned the organization's commitment to staying up-to-date in scientific fields and expanding toxicology laboratories across the country.

Despite the sanctions, Iran has made significant progress in medical science and pharmaceuticals, with Iranian-developed medicines being exported to 40 countries worldwide.

However, experts have warned about the detrimental effects of sanctions on Iran's access to medicine supplies, particularly for treating special diseases like cancer.

In response, the Iranian government has sought alternative suppliers and focused on domestic production to reduce reliance on imports.
