More prisoner swap with US soon: Irans top rights official

The Iran Project - Secretary of Iranian High Council for Human Rights says Iran and the United States have agreed to release more prisoners in a swap deal.

Kazem Gharibabadi, secretary of Irans High Council for Human Rights and deputy head of the Iranian Judiciary, made the comments in an interview with Irans Arabic-language Al-Alam news network on Wednesday.

He stated that theagreement includes the release of Iranian prisoners who have unjustly and falsely been detained in the US for accusations, including sidestepping Western-imposed sanction, adding that Tehran will also release some prisoners who have dual American and Iranian citizenships.

This accord follows previous agreements between Iran and the US, including the exchange of prisoners and the release of Iranian oil revenue.

Gharibabadi also criticized Sweden for detaining Hamid Nouri, a former Iranian judiciary official, calling it "illegal" and "politically-motivated."

He accused Sweden of supporting terrorism by detaining Nouri, who is linked to the Mujahedin Khalgh (MKO) terrorist group.

Gharibabadi demanded that members of the MKO be put on trial for their crimes against Iranian civilians.
He also criticized Western states for using the MKO as a tool to further their own goals.
