Tehran summons Iraqi envoy over anti-Iran terror activities in KRG

Iran's Foreign Ministry has summoned Iraq ambassador to Tehran following the continuation of terrorist groups' movements in Iraq's Kurdistan region, the Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson stated.

On Saturday, the Iraqi ambassador was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran after the members of the separatist groups were invited to an official ceremony in Iraq's Kurdistan region as well, Nasser Kanani told Fars News Agency.

Condemning the aforementioned measures, the Iranian side described the events as contrary to the recent security agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq, according to the spokesman.

Tehran also urged implementing the clauses of the agreement and combating the factors that disturb the security of the two countries, he added.

Kanani also noted that the Iraqi ambassador said he will reflect the protests of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Iraqi government.

It is worth mentioning that Iranian military forces have on several occasions conducted raids on the terror bases in Iraqi Kurdistan, as many warnings for the local officials to contain the terrorist outfits fell on deaf ears.

Moreover, the Iraq-based terrorists were found by intelligence bodies to have played a significant role in fueling a wave of unrest and deadly riots that broke out in Iran in September 2022 and continued to plague the country for months.
