Iran, Russia agree to broaden port, maritime cooperation

FNA - Managing Director of Irans Ports and Maritime Organization Mohammad Rastad and Head of Russias Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transportation Yury Tsvetkov in a meeting agreed to expand the cooperation between the two countries in the Caspian Sea.

During the meeting the two sides discussed exchanging port cooperation protocols, issues related to Iranian ships in the Russian ports and joint investments in both countries' ports within the framework of Iran-Russia 2nd committee of joint maritime and ports cooperation.

The Iranian and Russian officials also underlined the importance of reinforcing joint investment based on ports development, lifting shipping barriers and increasing maritime transportation.

The volume of maritime exchanges between Iran and Russia exceeds 2,700 tons per year.

The same figure is predicted to increase to above 5,400 tons after the taking effect of maritime transportation development protocol.
