Egg exports to Afghanistan resume

Financial Tribune - Iran has resumed egg exports to Afghanistan after a hiatus, says President of Tehran's Egg-Laying Chicken Producers Union Nasser Nabipour.

According to the official, 60-70 tons of eggs are exported to the neighboring country daily, Mehr News Agency reported.

Iran has exported 16,000 tons of eggs since the beginning of the current fiscal year [March 21, 2019], he added.

With regard to egg exports to Iraq, Iran's other major destination, Nabipour said egg exports to Iraq have ceased.

In late September, the official said Irans egg exports had ceased for more than a month then and the export markets, including Iraq and Afghanistan, are no longer interested in importing eggs from Iran as the country has failed to maintain a steady supply to those countries, Mehr News Agency reported.

The above-mentioned destinations have replaced Iran with Turkey for egg imports, he added.

In an earlier statement, Deputy Agriculture Minister Morteza Rezaei said Irans egg production is predicted to register an increase of 11% compared with last year (March 2018-19) and reach 1 million tons by the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2020).

The official told Mehr News Agency that 900,000 tons of eggs were produced last year, 90% of which are by industrial units while the rest was produced by local farmers.

Each Iranian consumes an average of 200 eggs annually.

According to Rezaei, Iran is the 10th biggest egg producer in the world and fifth in Asia.
