Iraq favors boosting ties with Iran: PM

IRNA Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi said on Sunday that his country is seeking to promote relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In a meeting with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif late Sunday, he added that Iraqs policy is based on establishing best ties with the neighbors, including Iran.

Expressing pleasure over President Barham Salihs recent talks with Iranian officials in Tehran, the premier hoped that the reciprocal visits would help further development of bilateral relations.

Zarif, for his part, reaffirmed Irans continued support for Iraqi government in line with reinforcing democracy in the country.

He also voiced Irans readiness for strengthening ties with Iran in different arenas such as politics, economy and culture.

Zarif, heading a politico-economic delegation, is currently in Baghdad for talks with the neighboring states officials.
