Navy official; Claims on Iran border insecurity during sanctions 'nonsense'

MNA Deputy Coordinator of the Iranian Army Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari slammed as nonsense the predictions that the security of the Irans borders would get into trouble during the imposition of new sanctions.

Speaking on the sidelines of a local ceremony on Saturday, Sayyari pointed to the effects of US sanctions on Irans maritime industry, saying the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran have been subject to sanctions since February 11, 1979, and maybe even earlier.

Referring to Irans progress in the maritime sector, he said, in the near future, Iranian frigate Sahand and Fateh-class submarine will join Iran navy fleet.

"Those who claim that the imposition of new sanctions will insecure Irans borders are wrong and are talking nonsense," he added.

Security is held on the borders of the country, Sayyari said, adding, it is not unlikely that an incident happens over time, however, the security of the borders in Iran is much better than those of other regional countries.
