Iran urges following up refugees self-immolation case in Vienna

IRNA – Iranian embassy in Austria in a statement expressed regret over self-immolation of an Iranian and 4 Afghan refugees in Vienna and called for quick investigation over the issue.

One Iranian and four Afghan refugees whose asylum claims have been rejected and they were waiting for deportation, set themselves on fire Saturday morning in their cells at one of the detention centers in the Austrian capital.

They are reported to be in critical health conditions.

The incident caused evacuation of the detention center and blocking of the Gürtel Street where it is located.

About 20 other people were also transferred to hospital due to smoke poisoning.
