Tehran blasts French police for negligence in protecting Iranian embassy

FNA - The Iranian foreign ministry lashed out at the French police for its delay in arresting several individuals who attacked the country's embassy in Paris, broke the glasses and desecrated Iran's flag on Friday evening.

"Unfortunately, despite the natural expectation from the French police, they were not present on time when the invaders, who were affiliated to a terrorist grouplet, were present there (in front of the Iranian embassy in Paris)," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Saturday.

He referred to the detention of a number of assailants by the French police after they attacked the embassy building, and called for their trial and punishment.

Qassemi reminded the French foreign ministry of France's responsibility to protect foreign diplomatic missions in the country.

Members of the Komala terrorist group assaulted the Iranian embassy in Paris after the French police, in a surprising move, informed the mission of an impending attack and left the scene.

Nearly 15 Komala members attacked the Iranian embassy in Paris on Friday evening, desecrated Iran's flag and hurled stones and different objects, including computer parts and fire extinguisher, at its building, breaking the glasses.

The French police had earlier informed the embassy officials of the attack since Friday morning but they left the embassy premises as soon as the attackers arrived. They returned to the Iranian mission after the assault.

There is yet no report on the size of damage to the embassy building.
