'After the victory of Resistance Front against extremist and terrorist groups; it is high time that Syria was reconstructed and strategic allies of the country should be part of that,' Zarif told reporters while speaking upon his arrival at Damascus Airport.
Referring to a trilateral meeting to be held in Tehran on September 7 by presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey to discuss Syria, Zarif said, in the Friday, the trio will discuss how to deal with the extremists and terrorists, including the al-Nusra Front.
He added that the political procedures to counter the terrorists in Syria will be discussed too.
According to Zarif dealing with the humane affairs and return of refugees has already started and the neighboring countries have an important role to this end.
Zarif was welcomed at the airport by Syrian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Feisal al-Meqdad, Iran's envoy to Syria Javad Torkabadi and a number of other Syrian and Iranian officials.
He is to meet senior Syrian officials, including President Bashar al-Assad during his one-day stay in Damascus.
This is Zarif's second visit to Damascus as the foreign minister of Iran.
He is accompanied by senior assistant to Iran's foreign minister for political affairs Hossein Jaberi-Ansari.
In addition to hold meetings with senior Syrian officials, Zarif is also to consult with Syria, as Iran's strategic partner, on the verge of a trilateral meeting that is to be held in Tehran soon.
Iranian, Russian, and Turkish presidents, respectively Hassan Rouhani, Vladimir Putin, and Recep Tayyip Erdo?an are to meet in Tehran to discuss latest developments in Syria.
Cooperation among Iran, Russia and Turkey for solving Syrian crisis, known as Astana process, began some two years ago. Since then, several rounds of talks have been held and significant progress has been made.
The trio also held 13 expert meetings so far; the results of which show that regional disputes and crises can be solved through joint efforts.
