Smaller EU firms use sanctions against Iran as opportunity to cooperate

Sputnik - Masoud Ahmadzadeh, SOCs first deputy managing director, told Sputnik that Irans Sepahan Oil Company and German EDL have signed an oil sector partnership agreement aimed at improving the quality of production of raw materials including motor and industrial oils.

He also discussed the purpose ofthe partnership agreement inthe context ofthe US sanctions regime aswell asthe benefits that Iran would get ofit.
Unfortunately, I cant tell you the exact number ofthe contracts, asit is classified information. The German EDL has strong ties withIran, and it has been operating inthe Middle East and Iran forabout 20 years. The company is interested incontinued cooperation withIran. However, the German government, aswell asthe European Union, allowed these companies towork withIran, and support some ofthese companies so that the American restrictions didnt affect their performance.

According toMasoud Ahmadzadeh, their company has discusssed the sanctions problem withthese companies sincethe start ofnegotiations. Fortunately, EDL didnt consider the sanctions a problem, so the sides managed tosign a partnership agreement. Ahmadzadeh mentioned the introduction ofnew technologies aimed atimproving the quality ofproduction inareas ofcooperation betweenthe companies.

Our company specializes inoil refining aswell ascommercial oils and oils production. Our challenge now is toreach a new level, succeed increating wax concentrates and achieve a higher quality paroline withlower levels ofoils and added value ofabout two times. Rubber, textile and wood-working industries are using these wax concentrates. We are going togo further and start manufacturing highly-refined wax touse inthe health care and food industries.

According tothe first deputy managing director, SOC plans toimplement this project together withEDL, and this will have many financial benefits forIran asthe price ofthe wax concentrate is now between $550 and $600, and the price ofhighly refined wax is $1,100 per ton.

Speaking aboutthe fact that large companies such asTotal are coming outof Iran, Ahmadzadeh said that these companies are being replaced bysmall and medium-sized European companies.
As the sanctions make large companies leave Iran, smaller European firms willing tocooperate withIran use this asan opportunity toreplace them and the process has already started.

He also added that Germanys EDL was one ofthe first companies tosign a contract withIran resulting inmutually beneficial cooperation.
