Sputnik- The EU, when previously addressing the sanctions re-imposed on Tehran by the US, confirmed their commitment to the Iranian nuclear deal, urging Washington to spare European business from the secondary sanctions.



"We will not be able tocompensate foreverything that arises fromcompanies pulling outof Iran," Heiko Maas stated beforea roundof negotiations amongthe remaining parties tothe Joint Comprehensive Plan ofAction (JCPOA), also known asthe Iranian nuclear deal.


German Chancellor Angela Merkel has claimed that EU businesses would be forced towind downtheiractivities inIraninorder toavoid US sanctions. Tehran, forits part, has stressed that world powers should fully compensate the country forthe US sanctions tosave the deal.

In May ofthis year, US President Donald Trump announced that his country would withdraw fromthe JCPOA, which ensured the peaceful nature ofthe Iranian nuclear program, reinstating the previously lifted sanctions onIran. The unilateral decision faced opposition fromthe other parties tothe deal Russia, China, France, Germany, the UK, and the European Union.
