Iran files lawsuit against US in ICJ: FM spokesman

ISNA Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi announced that the country filed a formal complaint against Washington with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning Irans frozen assets and the Hague-based court would hold public hearings in the case in October 2018.

Speaking in his weekly press conference on Monday, Bahram Qassemi said, Iran filed a formal complaint with the ICJ about the illegal verdicts issued by American courts, seeking to recover billions in frozen assets.

ICJ will hold public hearings in the case concerning Certain Iranian Assets (Islamic Republic of Iran v. United States of America) from October 8 to 12, 2018 and we are waiting for the outcomes of the hearings, he added.

The government will seriously follow the case until the nations rights are realized and the money is back, along with its compensation, he stated.

Referring to the Yemeni crisis, Qassemi said, International community should realize the difficult situation of Yemeni people and global associations as well as the United Nations must endeavor to stop aggression and harassment against the oppressed people of Yemen.

In this regard, the Islamic Republic of Iran has tried to make contacts with other governments and states of the region, European countries as well as international communities to convey the voice of oppressed people of Yemen and the victims of the aggression of Saudi Arabia. We are also looking for a solution to stop the aggression and deliver humanitarian aids to Yemeni people, he added.

The spokesman mentioned to the US behavior toward international institutions and the countrys noncompliance with the international principles and said, Given the situation, we cant expect Washington to meet Irans demands and conditions and dramatically change its behaviors toward Tehran. In other words, the US is not a country we can talk to it and currently, negotiation and dialogue with the US seems to be impossible.
