China working with Iran despite US pressures: Chinese analyst

IRNA US can exit from the Iran Deal, but Washington's pressure on Beijing cannot affect China-Iran relations, a Chinese analyst said here on Saturday.

Chinese companies preserve their ties with Iran and keep working with their Iranian counterparts, Wang Yongzhong, analyst at Institute of World Economics and Politics (IWEP) of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

As Yongzhong said, the sanctions imposed on Iran before the 2015 nuclear deal were worldwide but at present this is only the US which has unilaterally withdrawn from Iran nuclear deal, while other five world powers are committed to keep the Deal.

Iran and the six world powers- US, UK, France, Russia, China and Germany- reached a landmark nuclear agreement formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on July 14, 2015. The deal, which many world leaders believe that has to be kept alive, was violated by the US President Donald Trump in May.

About the Beijing stance on the issue, the Chinese analyst said US cannot put pressure on development of ties between China and Iran as long as the European countries and Russia support the JCPOA.

The Chinese analyst said his country in its relations with Iran has followed the international regulations and China as an independent country does not accept US unilateral laws.

He went on to say that the Chinese state enterprises have not left Tehran after US May decision and still cooperate with Iran.

On trade exchange between China and Iran, the analyst proposed that the two countries do oil deals and make investments in yuan instead of dollar (official currencies for China and US respectively).
