Trump, Kim agreement reduced risk of military conflict

MNA Iranian ambassador to UK, Hamid Baeidinejad, said the agreement reached between US and North Korean leaders on June 12 has reduced the possibility of war between the two sides.

One positive aspect of the agreement between the US and North Korea is that the possibility of war and military conflict between the two sides, escalated by Trumps bellicoseremarks, which could have affected South Korea, Japan and China, and had caused great concern, has now been reduced, the Iranian Ambassador to London, Hamid Baeidinejad, wrote in a piece on Wednesday.

Baeidinejad went on to add, however, that the agreement reached between US President Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un at the summit in Singapore is, at this stage, nothing more than an expression of commitment to reach an agreement in the future.

The important thing here is the implementation of the commitments by the two sides, which have not taken place to this day, he added.

According to the Iranian envoy, the joint document signed by Trump and Kim, under whichTrump has vowed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK, while North Koreacommits to work towards complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,is even weaker than the commitments already accepted by Pyongyang.

He maintained that the agreement has received widespread criticism from many organizations active in the field of international security and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons due to its weak content.

Leaders of United States and North Korea signed what Trump described as a very important document following the conclusion of their historic summit in Singapore on June 12.

The summit took place as Trump has recently withdrawn from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, a multilateral agreement that promised lifting of sanctionsagainst Iran in exchange of putting limitations on Tehrans nuclear program.

Irans Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ghasemi has warned North Korean leader not to trust Trump as the US has a history of quitting treaties and violating their commitments.
