US stance against JCPOA 'not permanent': Pres. Rouhani

US stance against JCPOA
MNA Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday that the situation in US and the upcoming congress election in that country means that US current approach towards JCPOA and Iran may not stay the same.

The difference between our todays enrichment of uranium and the pre-JCPOA enrichment is that at that time UN was claiming that Iran does not have the right to enrich uranium because of deviations but now it is legal according to the very same UN which has now voted for us by members including the US. This is securing the rights of the nation in an effort to lift the unjust sanctions against the Iranian nation, said Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, on Saturday.

Rouhani's remarks came asUS Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that Tehran must stop enriching uranium and import the material instead. Iran has rejected Pompeo's remarks, saying its legal right to uranium enrichment has been established and the country possesses its know-how.

Rouhani went on to add, today we are at a situation that French President, in his visit to Russia and in the meeting with Russian President, said at the joint presser that France was backing the JCPOA. The Americans are posing pressure on Europeans that they should align with either Iran or US but the Europeans say that they are supportive of the JCPOA."

Today we are focused on this principle that if Irans rights can be protected with staying in the JCPOA, we keep abiding by the agreement. The events occurred in the past period has made us hopeful that we can reach our goals, continued the Iranian top executive.

You have to bear in mind that the situation is not stable in US and the outcome of the congress election or other upcoming elections in the country is not known yet so the US approach to the JCPOA and Iran cannot remain the same, reassured the Iranian top official.
