Parliament to allow no one to negotiate about Irans missile power: MP

Tasnim Spokesperson for the Iranian Parliaments National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said the legislative body would never allow anybody to hold talks about the countrys missile might.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Naqavi Hosseini pointed to remarks made by some Western officials, the French in particular, on the necessity of negotiations over Irans missile power and wondered why the West refuses to recognize the fact that Iran will not discuss our missile and defense capabilities with anyone.

He further made it clear that the parliament will never allow anybody at any level to hold talks with foreigners about the countrys missiles.

Although there are some differences of opinion among political groups in the parliament, there is a consensus among the lawmakers about issues pertaining to national interests, including the countrys defense power, he went on to say.

The remarks came as French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, who is in Tehran on an official visit, threatened ahead of his trip that Iran needed to address international concerns over its ballistic missile program or it risked new sanctions.

Senior Iranian officials have repeatedly said that the countrys missile program is purely defensive, stressing that it is not up to France or any other country to make decisions about Irans defense issues.

In December, Tehran advised Paris to be careful in its views about the Islamic Republic after French President Emmanuel Macron called for talks on Irans ballistic missiles.
