Army, IRGC dispatch aid to quake-hit areas in western Iran

MNA Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake on Iran-Iraq border which left at least 200 people dead and hundreds injured, Irans Army and Revolutionary Guard Corps have dispatched forces to assist with rescue operations.


Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General MohammadBagheri has issued a message to Armed Forces personnel to provide earthquake-stricken people in western parts of Iran with immediate relief supplies.

According to reports, armed forces situated in affected areas from Army, IRGC and police, have taken the necessary measures to aid the injured.

Meanwhile, IRGC spokesman Gen. Ramezan Sharif said ground, aerospace, and medical units from the Revolutionary Guard Corps have been assisting with the rescue operations from the early moments that the earthquake struck western provinces of Iran.

IRGC commander Brig. Gen. Jafari and Army Chief Major GeneralMousavi have also departed for Kermanshah.

On President Rouhanis directive, interior and health ministers, as well as head of Iranian Red Crescent Society are accompanying a team from the presidential administration headed for earthquake-stricken areas in Kermanshah province.
