Larijani: Iran, Russia really fighting terrorists

IRNA – Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said that contrary to certain countries’ propaganda, Iran and Russia are really fighting terrorism.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin on the sidelines of Meeting of Eurasia Parliament Speakers on Tuesday.

“We are willing to host the meeting in Tehran in 2019,” he said.

Noting that Iran and Russia have excellent relations in various fields, he said, “During my meeting with President Vladimir Putin, he underlined that his country has strategic ties with Iran.”

While certain countries only chant slogans of fighting terrorism, Iran and Russia have joint successful experience in battling terrorism, he said, noting that in addition to success in operational field, they carried out positive measures in line with diplomatic settlement pursued in Astana.

Yemen’s situation has been further complicated and a human catastrophe has occurred in the impoverished country, he said, noting, “I think Saudis have committed a strategic mistake about Yemen and have got stuck in a quagmire.”

Volodin, for his part, said that one of the priorities of Meeting of Eurasian Parliament Speakers is to fight terrorism, hoping that more European countries will take part in the event in future.

“Iran-Russian cooperation is good in fighting terrorism and contributing to international security,” he said.

He also invited Laijani to visit Russia soon.

Larijani arrived in Seoul on Monday to attend the Second Meeting of Eurasian Parliament Speakers.

First Meeting of Eurasian Parliament Speakers was held in Moscow last year with parliamentary officials of 20 countries in attendance.
