Financial Tribune- Draeger Safety, a leading global provider of medical and safety solutions, is looking to expand its foray in Iran’s petroleum industry, a company executive told the Financial Tribune.
“This is the second time I’ve been to the oil and gas in Tehran. Our business is to provide safety products, including protection and detection equipment,” Ian White, Draeger’s regional manager for oil and gas and chemicals, said on the sidelines of the 22nd International Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition in Tehran.
Draeger Safety is a manufacturer of protection and gas detection technology and a supplier of safety systems for industry, fire prevention, mining and other hazardous areas. It is one of the manufacturing arms of Dragerwerk AG, a German company founded more than a century ago.
“Protection wise, we produce breathing apparatus, respiratory protection and face masks to make sure people will have the right type of gear to breathe in potentially toxic and poisonous environments,” White said.
The company’s products range from respiratory protective equipment for firefighters, miners and other industrial personnel to air filter and supply systems and portable and fixed gas detection and warning systems.
“We also produce detection products which will detect explosive gases or anything which may cause an explosion in oil, gas, chemical and petrochemical industries or in confined industrial spaces,” he added.
Detection and protection instruments are an integral part of safety systems for industrial facilities. According to White, the German company has streamlined the safety systems.
“We have combined detection and protection products. We detect things, and when there is a release of toxic gases, we make sure people will safely leave the area.”
Draeger has operated in the Iranian market for over 30 years in collaboration with Lab Tech Co., a local supplier of equipment for industrial and healthcare sectors.
White indicated that Draeger’s business does not end with sales.
“We make sure even the end users (such as refinery, petrochemical workers) will know how to work with different pieces of equipment and how different pieces would go together. We have to maintain a circle to make sure that people are trained and fully understand how safety works.”
The official added that Draeger has played a role in providing safety systems for the South Pars Gas Field project, but did not give details.
The easing of international sanctions last year allowed Tehran to speed up South Pars development. Iran was denied access to modern oil and gas equipment under the sanctions regime.
