Electricity returns to Irans Khuzestan after days of recurrent cuts

Press TV- Irans National Disaster Management Organization (NDMO) says electricity supply has been restored throughout most of the southwestern province of Khuzestan.

For the second time this month, a mixture of heavy rainfall and severe haze caused dust and smoke particles to disrupt the provinces power grid which resulted in recurrent cuts in several cities, including Ahvaz.

The electricity grid in most of these cities is back online, and the problem has been solved, said Morteza Akbarpour, an NDMO deputy, on Monday.

Akbarpour noted that necessary operations were being carried out to fix transmission and distribution lines to bring back electricity delivery to the rest of the provinces towns.

He noted that the reason behind the power cuts was a rare phenomenon, in which moisture in the air is mixed with airborne dust and pollution particles and create an insulating layer around the fibers and wires of the network.

According to IRNA, following the power outages in at least 11 cities and towns of the province, water, phone, and internet connections were also knocked out and the schools in some areas were also forced to close down.
