One killed, near 1700 houses damaged as floods hit Southeastern Iran
Tasnim The governor of Irans southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan on Friday announced that one person has been killed and about 1700 houses have been damaged after floods hit the province.

Our first measure after the rain was to make efforts to save the people from drowning in the floods and prevent the closure of roads, Ali Osat Hashemi said in an interview with the Tasnim News Agency.

However, he added, 1675 houses have been damaged by the floods in the province mostly because the houses were made of mud-bricks.

The provincial governor further said an old woman also lost her life in the floods after her 50-year-old mud-brick house collapsed.

Hashemi also highlighted the importance of recent heavy rains in the province and said, before the rain, all of the palms of the province were dying because of lack of water.

Back in 2015, Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian had issued a letter, warning of an El Nino weather system that is expected to pummel the country with torrents of rain and cause flooding and freezing temperatures in autumn and winter.

El Nino is seen as one of three key climate patterns that could lead to changes in our global temperature.

The event occurs when the waters of the Pacific become exceptionally warm and distort weather patterns around the world.
