IRNA Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov suggested the US participation in the Syria talks to be held among Tehran, Ankara and Moscow in Astana, Kazakhstan, January 23.
In a press conference here on Tuesday, he said the Intra-Syrian talks are to take place upon the initiative by the countries of Iran, Turkey and Russia which support ceasefire in the crisis-hit country.
He suggested participation of a delegations from the US and the United Nations in the Astana talks and said that would be the first contact with the new American government on anti-terrorism issues.
He said the talks mainly aim at reinforcing ceasefire and attracting the involvement of Syrian anti-government armed groups in the political processes to settle crisis in the country.
Earlier today, Irans Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a phone conversation with Lavrov reviewed issues relating to the upcoming Intra-Syrian talks.
They both emphasized the necessity of coordinating measures for the talks which will be attended by the representatives of the Syrian government, non-terrorist opposition groups and the United Nations.
The negotiations will be monitored by Iran, Russia and Turkey.
Conducting the intra-Syria talks is one of the main articles of the final statement of the December 20 meeting held by foreign ministers of Iran, Russia and Turkey in the Russian capital.
