Iran dismisses reports on setting preconditions for ceasefire in Aleppo

FNA- The Iranian foreign ministry rejected media reports claiming that Tehran has set preconditions for the establishment of ceasefire in Aleppo, describing them as smear propaganda against his country.

"Such an issue is not true and is viewed as propaganda ballyhoos against Iran," Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Thursday.

Stressing Iran's permanent position on all-out efforts to establish peace and stability in Syria, he said, "Iran wants all influential countries in Syria to help establish ceasefire and stop re-supply of arms to the terrorists. We have always had on agenda efforts to establish peace and stability and purge the terrorists from Syria."

Qassemi expressed the hope that sending aid to the Aleppo people who have suffered for years under the terrorists' control would be possible as soon as possible.

His remarks came after Reuters quoted officials with two Syrian rebel groups and a United Nations official as claiming that Iran had introduced new conditions to the Aleppo ceasefire and evacuation deal negotiated by Russia and Turkey.

Qassemi had also said on Wednesday night that Iran is going to do its best to help establish an enduring ceasefire and peace in Syria and stop hostilities in the country.

"Regarding the importance of developments in Syria and what is going on in the recently-liberated city of Aleppo and their influence on regional stability and security and in accordance to Iran's unwavering determination to extend humanitarian aids and help a safe and secure exit of the civilians, Iran will do its best to help peace and ceasefire to be established in the country," Qassemi said.

He emphasized the need for addressing the humanitarian issue in Syria, and added, "Iran's policy regarding the importance of the humanitarian issues is quite clear."

"Saving the lives of the innocent people in Syria and stopping the killing of people by the terrorist groups establish the principled and unwavering policy of the Islamic Republic," the spokesman said.

Qassemi also urged other governments and the Western organizations to exercise a serious stance against inhuman measures of the terrorist groups and help relief aids reach all the crisis areas in Syria.

"From the outset, Iran has believed that relief aid should reach all the crisis areas in the region without any discrimination," he said.
