FM spokesman rules out Britain PM anti-Iran remarks at PGCC meeting

IRNA Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi on Wednesday criticized UK Prime Minister Theresa May for her statement to the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council deemed hostile to Iran.

Qasemi said that such interference made by the UK prime minister escalate tension in the region instead of helping restore international peace and security.

He said that Theresa May must have invited the PGCC to avoid supporting terrorism and violence in the Persian Gulf region in her statement.

The Iranian spokesman said that the remarks of the British prime minister have their roots in predicament in UK relations with the European Union which has undermined the UK international status.

Qasemi said that Theresa May's remarks have been lip service to the PGCC leaders in order to sell weapons to them.
