Those behind rail tragedy should be identified without delay: Judiciary

Tasnim Iranian Judiciarys Deputy Chief and Spokesman Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei stressed the need to identify and put on trial those responsible for a recent train crash that killed 45 people in the province of Semnan.

Regarding this incident, the administration should take two steps, Ejei said on Sunday.

First, it should make sure the injured are taken care of and assist the bereaved families of the victims, he stressed.

Moreover, the spokesman added, the authorities should make arrangements and take measures necessary to prevent such incidents in the future.

He went on to say that the three branches of government should make efforts to identify those responsible for this incident and take legal action against them without any leniency or delay.

Managing Director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Mohsen Pourseyyed Aqaei resigned after the deadly train crash.

In the meantime, Iranian lawmakers are working on a plan to impeach Minister of Road and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi for what they call his weak performance that led to the terrible incident.

In a message on Saturday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei voiced deep sorrow over the incident, blaming it on the negligence and imprudence of those involved.

The incidents death toll has risen to 45, while dozens of others were wounded in the crash, which occurred at around 8 a.m. Friday in a mountainous area near Haft-Khan station, on the railroad linking the cities of Semnan and Damghan.

A passenger train travelling between capital Tehran and the northeastern holy city of Mashhad was stopping near the station when another train hit it from behind, setting a number of cars ablaze.
