IRNA – Navy commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said here on Thursday that Iran’s naval forces are capable enough to produce their necessary equipment with the highest technology.
Sayyari made the remarks while visiting the mausoleum of Late Imam Khomeini on Thursday.
He added the Iranian navy has attained self-sufficiency in training its forces based on the international standard and does not need foreign advisors.
Sayyari also reiterated that the naval forces enjoy the highest defensive and deterrence powers.
In recent years, Iran’s Navy has increased its presence in international waters to protect naval routes and provide security for merchant vessels and oil tankers.
In line with international efforts against piracy, the Iranian Navy has also been conducting patrols in the Gulf of Aden since Nov 2008 in order to protect merchant containers and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran or other countries, he said.
Iran’s Navy has managed to foil several attacks on Iranian or foreign tankers during its missions in international waters, said the Navy commander.
