No price too high: US uses 'all means available' to spy on Iran

As the number of incidents between US and Iranian armed forces in the vicinity of the Islamic Republics borders continues to increase, it appears that Washington remains insistent to keep assessing Tehrans defensive capabilities using every tool at its disposal.

The most recent incident involved a P-8 and an EP-3 US reconnaissance aircraft that were flying inclose proximity tothe Iranian border. The planes were contacted byIranian military and were told tochange course or risk being shot downif they violated the Islamic Republics border.

This is the latest ina series ofrecent altercations betweenthe US and Iran. The Pentagon claims its ships have been intercepted byIranian vessels onat least 31 separate occasions sinceJanuary. Earlier this year, two US Navy patrol vessels drifted intoIranian waters inthe Persian Gulf.

Crewmembers were apprehended bythe Revolutionary Guard inan incident that nearly sparked an international crisis inthe midst ofthe Iran nuclear negotiations. Emad Abshenass, editor-in-chief ofthe Iran Press newspaper, told Sputnik that the US uses all means available tospy onIran and toassess the countrys defensive capabilities. "Ever sincethe historical nuclear deal has been signed, the US keeps using the most sophisticated methods toprovoke a harsh reaction outof Iran.

They seek todetermine how the Islamic Republic would react todifferent provocations and challenges, and todetermine whether Iran gave upthe 'Resistance and Opposition tothe US' tactic," he explained. According toAbshenass, the goal ofUS forces is todetermine Irans readiness formilitary engagements and togauge the countrys ability todetect airborne intruders.

However, the Iranian military is well aware ofthese intentions and reacts accordingly. He also pointed outthat when Irans security is atstake, the Iranian military doesnt care aboutthe nuclear deal, especially when an illegal violation ofthe nations aerial or maritime borders takes place.

"As forthe reports made byAmerican media, when some US military officials claim that a warning issued byIranian forces toa US crew is "unprofessional behavior," lets consider the oppositesituation.

Imagine that, forexample, Russian or Iranian aircraft conduct a similar maneuver inUS airspace. Would the US military be content topassively observe such behavior? That would be a good way todetermine whose behavior is professional and whose is not," he declared. Abshenass also remarked that the US is willing toget its results atany cost, and is ready tosacrifice their hardware, and possibly even personnel, if it would help them tocomplete their objectives. "An incident has already occurred when US spy drones intruded intoIranian airspace. The Iranian security forces were able todown and capture them intact inorder tomake copies ofthese drones copies that turned outto be interms oftechnical characteristics perhaps even better thanthe US originals.

President Obama himself asked Iran toreturn all ofthe US drones remains. However, Iran refused todo so, and even presented one ofthe copies toits Russian allies," he said. All inall, Abshenass surmised, Iran continues toupgrade its electronic security and early warning systems, and Iranian air defense forces stand ready toneutralize and destroy any enemy target that might attempt toviolate the countrys airspace.
