Pres. Rouhani due in Venezuela on Friday

Tehran, Sept 15, IRNA President Hassan Rouhani is due to travel to Venezuela on Friday to attend the 17th summit meeting of Non-Aligned Movement.

During the Venezuela meeting, President Rouhani, as the rotating president of the NAM, will confer presidency of the NAM to his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro.

The president will also meet and confer with a number of heads of state on the sidelines of the event.

Iran was given the presidency of NAM during a meeting in Tehran for a three-year term but as Venezuela was not ready to host the NAM summit meeting last year, Iran's presidency over the NAM was extended for another one year.

After the NAM Summit, the president will leave Venezuela to Havana upon an official invitation by his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro.

Apart from meeting the Cuban president, Rouhani is also scheduled to meet with Fidel Castro, the leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Then the president will leave Havana for New York where the 71st UN General Assembly meeting is to be held.
