Russia, Iran agree to settle bilateral trade in national currencies

Commercial banks from Russia and Iran have agreed to pay for bilateral supplies of products in national currencies, the Central Bank of Russia said in a statement Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) According tothe statement, the agreement was signed onThursday inthe course ofthe 4th plenary session ofthe Permanent Russian-Iranian Commission onTrade-and-Economic Cooperations working group onfinancial and banking cooperation inIran. The Russian delegation was headed byBank ofRussia Deputy Governor Dmitry Skobelkin, while the receiving party was headed byVice Governor ofthe Central Bank ofIran Gholamali Kamyab. "During the meeting, agreements were signed betweenthe commercial banks onthe financing ofmutual supplies ofproducts using inthe [respective] national currencies," the statement said.

Aside fromsigning the deal, the meeting participants discussed issues ofthe further development ofcooperation inthe banking sector, including the establishment ofcorrespondent relations, the development ofbilateral trade innational currencies aswell ascombating money laundering and the financing ofterrorism.

In June, Hossein Yaghoubi Miab, the director general ofthe international affairs department ofIran's Central Bank, told Sputnik that Tehran and Moscow could reach an official agreement onmaking transactions innational currencies "very soon."
