TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Supreme Leader's top adviser for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati underlined that Syria would have been disintegrated if Tehran had not taken action in support of the Arab country's fight against the terrorist groups.

"The western states, headed by the US, created turmoil in Syria since the beginning to overthrow the Syrian government which is Iran's strategic partner so that a government will be empowered that would receive money from certain regional states, implement the US-dictated policies and would not have any problem with Israel," Velayati said on Tuesday.

"This policy is against our strategic interests and therefore, we stood against it. Had Iran not supported the Damascus government, it would have collapsed within some weeks or Syria would be disintegrated, which was more probable," he added.

"Therefore, under such conditions, Iran supports the Syrian government with all its power. If we dont have relations with Syria, our ties with Hezbollah will not remain in place either," Velayati said.

In relevant remarks in April, Velayati underlined that no foreign state is entitled to decide for Syrias fate, and said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is Tehrans redline.

"The US (officials) says that Bashar Assad should leave, but Assad should remain in power as Syria's legal president until the end of his presidential term and that is our redline," Velayati said in an interview with the state TV.

He reiterated that Bashar Assad is the Islamic Republic of Irans redline since he has been elected by the Syrian people, and the Syrian people should finally decide about their countrys fate.

He underscored that Iran will not leave Assad alone either in the battle ground or in politics, and said that no foreign country can decide about Syria's fate.
