Iraqi forces push further in Fallujah, keeping eyes on city center

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iraqi security forces on Thursday restored security to newly-liberated district of Shuhada in Southern Fallujah after they made a significant advance in the battle against ISIL militants in the besieged city of Fallujah, security sources said.

The victory by the Iraqi forces came as they continued their clashes with ISIL militants in Iraq's Western province of Anbar, the sources said.

The Iraqi troops took control of Shuhada district in Southern Fallujah, some 50 km West of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on Wednesday, and they are fighting near Sixteen Street, which separates Shuhada from the adjacent district of Nazal near the Central part of the city, a security source said on condition of anonymity.

"The battles are underway and will continue until defeating the militants of ISIL in Nazal district which is close to the government compound in Fallujahs City Center," the source said.
