Iran to mull Japanese plan on Persian Gulf water transfer

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iran will consider Japan's proposal to fund and implement a project on channeling water from the Persian Gulf, south of the country, to arid central areas.

The plan will be weighed up on the sidelines of the 2nd conference on Iran-Japan cooperation in the water and wastewater industry, due to be held in Tehran on Saturday.

Japanese have offered to invest in and implement mega water projects in Iran, including the Persian Gulf water desalination plans and transferring it to Irans central deserted areas.

Japans advanced technologies in water management, together with Irans scientific potential and human resources, can help improve efficiency of water systems in the country, Hamidreza Janbaz, managing director of Irans National Water and Wastewater Engineering Company told the Tasnim News Agency.

Iran has already devised plans to desalinate the Persian Gulf water along its southern coastal areas with small nuclear reactors.
