Pause in Syrian talks shows deep divisions between parties - UN Sec-Gen

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that pause in the intra-Syrian reconciliation talks in Geneva shows a large division between the parties.

LONDON (Sputnik) The pause in the intra-Syrian reconciliation talks in Geneva shows a large division between the parties, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said Thursday.

"We all hope that the efforts guided by my Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura will yield progress. But the temporary pause in the talks shows just how deep the divisions are," Ban said.

Ban Ki-moon has called on all the parties involved in the intra-Syrian reconciliation talks to engage seriously in order to end the crisis.

"I urge the Security Council and the International Support Group for Syria to press the parties to engage seriously with each other on Syrias future," Ban said.

UN Secretary General has urged the donors at the Support Syria conference in London to meet the $8 billion needed for 2016.

"First, to meet the enormous humanitarian needs: $8 billion for this year alone. Despite the generosity of some donors, the international community has failed to keep pace with these needs," Ban said.
