Rouhani: Islamic countries strong enough to eradicate terrorists
Tehran, Jan 13, IRNA President Hassan Rouhani underlined that Islamic states should not wait for others to fight against terrorism, because they have enought power for cleansing the region from the menace of terrorists.


According to the Presidential Office website, Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi here on Wednesday.

He said that Iran and Indonesia, as countries with the largest Muslim population, have always had good relations and added that Iran is ready to expand its ties in all fields with Jakarta.

Referring to regional and Islamic developments, he said that Islamic states should have more consultations and exchange views adding that for fighting with terrorists they should not wait for others, because Islamic countries have enough power to cleanse terrorists from the region.

Efforts for strengthening unity and consolidation among Muslims are the most important need of the Islamic world today, he said and added that Islamic World and Muslim countries for more progress have no option except wider cooperation and closer ties.

He termed support of a number of countries to terrorist groups contrary to strengthening unity, stability and consolidation in Islamic World and said that Iran has always wanted a good, brotherly and sincere relations among neighbors and regional countries and is ready to help other states in the way of unity, sustainable security and regional development.

Rouhani also appreciated Indonesian President Joko Widodo's attention to necessity of strengthening unity and dialogue in Islamic World.

Retno Marsudi underlined necessity of efforts in direction of expansion of cooperation and all-out ties between Tehran and Jakarta and said that Indonesia is committed to expansion of relations with Iran.

She said that peace and stability in the region are very important and added that friendly ties between Muslim states can help establishment of peace and stability in the region and that Muslims should be united on the basic challenges of Islamic World , like terrorism and extremism.
Marsudi, who visited Iran in October, arrived in Tehran on Wednesday morning and had a meeting with her Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.

She is to travel to Saudi Arabia, to deliver letter of President Widodo to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz concerning Jakarta's proposal in relations with decreasing tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
