Saudi Arabia, not Russia is a threat to UK – British politician

Left-wing British politician Ken Livingstone said on Thursday that Saudi Arabia, not Russia, poses a serious security threat to the UK.

According to the politician, the radical Islamic course – which has been largely financed by Saudi Arabia, the UK’s close ally — represents a real threat to Western countries, while the alleged threat from Russia promoted in the West does not exist.
“The simple fact is, the West doesn’t face a threat from Russia,” Livingstone said during the Russia Today conference in Moscow.

“We now face a threat from Muslim fundamentalism. Most of which has been funded by Saudi Arabia, our principal ally, which has funded the most intolerant strand of Islam which bears no relation to the teaching of the Prophet Mohammed,” he added.

The politician claimed that Russia’s negative image has been created by Western media which tend to report about certain events in a biased manner. They present Russian President Vladimir Putin as evil and conceal important facts, like discrimination against the Russian-speaking population in the Baltic Region and Europe’s pressure on Ukraine with regard to the Association Agreement, when European politicians said “they wouldn’t sign a trade deal unless [Ukraine] stopped negotiating a trade deal with Russia.”

According to the politician, Europe should concentrate on taking measures to fight against terrorism, rather than demonize Russia. The current efforts in this field are inefficient, partly because Great Britain and the US tolerate the fact that their close ally, Saudi Arabia, is funding Islamic fundamentalism.

Livingstone argued that British and US authorities should stop dealing with Saudi Arabia as an ally until it stops funding radical Muslims. Moreover, the West needs to further coordinate its efforts with Iran, Russia and other countries in order to eliminate terrorism, he said.
“The West is discredited after the fiasco over the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq,” the politician stated. He also added that a broad coalition is needed to achieve progress in the fight against terrorism.
