Russia, Iraq engaged in 'Advanced' counterterrorism cooperation - Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia is providing Iraq with assistance in the military-technical sphere.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Russia considers Iraq tobe an important partner inthe fight againstterrorism and cooperation betweenthe two countries inthis field is advanced, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday.

"As forour cooperation withBaghdad incombating international terrorism, it is ofan advanced nature," Lavrov told RIA Novosti ina written interview.

The minister noted that Russia is providing Iraq withassistance inthe military-technical sphere, and that an international center tohelp coordinate the fight againstthe ISIS has been set upin Baghdad. The center was established inSeptember byRussia, Iraq, Iran and Syria.

The ISIS, also known byits Arab acronym Daesh, has been designated a terrorist organization bynumerous countries, including Russia.

According toLavrov, a broad international coalition tofight the group is withinreach.

"We are convinced that the creation ofa united front againstterrorism is an achievable task. For this, we must put aside differences and ambitions, abandon the practice ofdouble standards, attempts touse terrorists forgeopolitical games," he said.
